Today, 4A students walked through the blistering rain to reach the elderly day care centre in Our Lady's Hospital, Manorhamilton. With them, they brought the apple tarts they worked hard to bake yesterday morning and were warmly received.
Both stories and slices of apple tart were shared among the students and the old people and although it was a little awkward at first with the students unsure of what to talk about, they gradually relaxed in the company of the surprisingly lively and often hilarious pensioners. Many discovered family ties between them and when it came to the time to say goodbye there were promises to return soon.
The students' understanding of their YSI project has progressed greatly as they engaged with the old folks and learned more about their lives.
