Our senior boys played Ballinamore Community School in Annaduff club pitch on Tuesday in the final of the Corn Brefnie Cup. It was a nice day with a touch of the sun and a stroke of wind. Unfortunately they lost by a heavy scoreline. Ballinamore started the stronger side and kept their pace the whole way through the game with some brilliant scores from Riordan O'Rourke, Aaron Hoare, Mark Keegan and Oisin McLoughlin. While at the other end of the field they had a very strong backline wit captain Adam Goldrick and goalkeeper Jack Gallogly who saved a brilliant Ruairi Sheridan penalty.
The scoreline didn't reflect much on the game as St.Clare's went out with a strong side but were just very unlucky throughout the game. They never gave up throughout the game they kept pushing Ballinamore but they couldn't find the stride they needed. Vincent Sweeney, Donnacha Devaney and Michael Loughlin grabbed a goal each for St Clare’s. Christopher Jenkins in the St.Clare's goals made some brilliant 1 on 1 saves to deny Ballinamore. Christopher’s kick outs were brilliant but were hard caught in the middle of the field between Ruairi Sheridan and Shane Fowley they found it difficult to manage Aaron Hoare who was brilliant in the middle for Ballinamore. In the backline for St.Clare's Dean Feely and Kyle Harte found it tough as they were pushed to the limit but they all ran there socks off. Sean Keaney up front for St.Clares scored a great point in the second half as he found it tough up there but wasn't getting the ball as much as he would have liked.
Stephan Kelly and Donnacha Devaney’s work rate was exceptional. Donnacha scored a great goal but found it hard to hit the target under immense pressure from Ballinamore. Adam Connolly and Patrick McTernan both came on for St.Clare's in the second half; Patrick made some great runs and looked to trouble Ballinamore. Ballinamore took a very early lead and St.Clare's found it exceptionally hard to fight back. Ballinamore won by 12 points in the end with a scoreline of 3-5 - 4-12. St.Clare's Senior Boys are already looking forward to their next match they are facing Castlerea in a Connacht League game.
Thank you to Mr Ward for training and accompanying the boys to the match.
