On Thursday 26th January a group of athletes travelled to Calry in Sligo with Ms. Carden, in order to compete in the North Connacht Regional Cross Country Athletics. The conditions were tough with strong crosswinds, icy temperatures and soft ground underfoot.
However, this didn’t deter the St. Clare’s Comprehensive athletes, who are all through to the Connacht Finals on Tuesday 7th February. In the minor girls category; Erin Somers (8th) was in peak condition, Emily Conlon (24th), Ashling Cullen (27th) and Isabel Sloane (55th) were very impressive on their first outing at the schools cross country event. All of the athletes are through as a team with the top three placed to count.
In the minor boys category; Patrick Montomery (2nd) narrowly missed out on 1st place, having misjudged his opponent. There was fantastic running from all of the minor boys; Evan Broughton (6th), Eanna Clancy (19th), Hugo Filan (29th) Darragh Mitchell and Fionn Feeley. The minor boys are through as a team with the top four placed to count.
In the junior girls category Sarah Brady demonstrated her natural talent when placed 4th and Rachel Conlon was hot on her heels in 6th place. In the senior category Kyle Harte came 7th after retaining his starting position all the way around the undulating 5,000 metre course.
Well done all and best wishes in the Connaught Finals.
