Congratulations to Mr Mc Donald and the 1st year boy’s soccer team who won the FAI Schools Connacht Cup. The St. Clare’s team faced Seamount College travelling from Kinavra, Co. Galway in a very physical test. The Galway boys had an advantage in size and stature which did not faze St. Clare's in the slightest. St Clare’s had a quick start to proceedings and applied ample pressure to the Seamount defence. Despite dominating the first half, St. Clare's still couldn't find a way past the Seamount defence and had many of their chances thwarted by some heroic defending. Diarmuid Giblin also had a goal disallowed for offside to encapsulate St. Clare's frustrations. After regrouping at half time, Seamount came out a different team for the second half, dominating possession and causing problems for the St. Clare's defense. The game finished at 0-0 thanks to some inspired defending by Matthew Connolly and sublime saves by Goalkeeper Shane Conlon. The game went to extra time and finally St. Clare's struck gold. After a series of intricate build up play between Cathal Og O' Connell, Eanna Clancy and Tarach O Snodaigh the ball was slipped through to the ever dangerous Patrick Montgomery who potently slotted the ball home. The game finished 1-0 to the delight of the St Clare's team. Well done to all the team and the TY trainers. This is a historic event for the school winning three Connacht titles in a month.
