The school was represented by four TY students at this years European Youth Parliament in the Breaffy Woods Hotel in Castlebar. On Friday the 18th of November we arrived at the Breaffy Woods Hotel. Upon arrival we were placed into our rooms. Afterwards we played team building games with the entirety of the students attending the seminar. We were then separated into our groups – or comities. Each committee was given a topic that was of concern to our generation, such as feminism, civil liberties and planed parenthood.
Within our groups we again played team building and get to know you games before dinner. The next day, Saturday the 19th, we spent the day in our committees researching our topic for the next day’s general debates. On Sunday we began the debates. Each committee had the opportunity to explain their topic, what they would do to change it and why they chose the outcome they did. All other committees were able to “attack” the committee’s views. This involved writing a short speech within which you explained why you disagreed. There was also a round of debates where you could mention one point you disagreed with and explain why. Overall the experience was a great one and we will defiantly be returning next year. Report written by Cadhla Doyle and Delores Henderson.
