On Tuesday the 10th of January TY and 5th year students travelled to the Student Life Summit in Croke Park. Developed with the Institute of Guidance Counsellors, The Student Life Summit will gave students the opportunity to explore a host of career choices and engage with a wide number of career sectors from Airlines and Aviation, Medicine, Healthcare, Media, and Entertainment Technology and Gaming among others. Students were given the opportunity to engage with leading employers including main sponsor Aer Lingus and also the Defence Forces, The Ireland U.S. Council, the National Maternity Hospital, PwC, Accenture, Deloitte, Alltech, Bord Bia, Glanbia and Sherry Fitzgerald amongst others. Trinity College, DCU, National College of Ireland and DIT colleges were also present for students to research and talk to about potential courses and degrees.
Students were given an opportunity to explore interesting and diverse career sectors with inspirational guest speakers including US Ambassador to Ireland Kevin O’Malley, Betty McLaughlin of the Institute of Guidance Councillors, David Rook of Riot Games, Yvonne Muldoon, Director of Sales Aer Lingus, and Brian MacCraith, President of DCU.
Employers were allowed the chance to impress students at their interactive hubs. Aer Lingus showcased all the diverse career options available within the Aviation industry, from becoming a pilot or cabin crew member to engineering, marketing, social media, accountancy and catering. Leading Gaming Company Riot Games were showcasing how to turn a hobby of gaming into a lifelong career of video game development.
